Brewing Methods

Compare brewing methods

Each method produces a different cup and asks for a different amount of attention. Pick one, then follow its measured baseline recipe.

Three quick recommendations

If the full comparison feels like too much, begin with the tradeoff that matters most.

The easiest daily routine

Drip or Cold brew

Both need little hands-on attention. Drip wins for a hot batch; cold brew wins for make-ahead coffee.

The clearest flavors

Pourover

A paper filter and controlled pour make individual flavors easiest to notice, at the cost of more technique.

The most body or strength

French press or Moka Pot

French press is rich and textured. Moka Pot is much more concentrated and works especially well with milk.

Compare the details

Time is total elapsed time. Effort describes how much attention the brew needs while it runs.

AeroPress Bold Smooth, rounded Low ~2 min $ 1:10 – 1:17 Medium-fine (table salt)
Drip Balanced Mellow, clean Very low 5–6 min $$ 1:14 – 1:18 Medium (beach sand)
Pourover Light to medium Bright, layered High 3–4 min $$ 1:15 – 1:17 Medium-fine (fine sand)
Moka Pot Very strong Bold, rich Low ~5 min $ Fixed by pot size Fine-medium (finer than drip)
French Press Full-bodied Rich, textured Low 5–9 min $ 1:14 – 1:17 Medium-coarse (rough sand)
Cold Brew Bold Smooth, mellow Very low 12–16 hr $ 1:5 – 1:12 Coarse (sea salt)

Follow a measured recipe

Every guide starts with one baseline, then shows you how to adjust it by taste.
